Ways to work

Fractional Content & AI Strategy

Senior content leadership without another full-time hire.

For businesses with plenty happening across content, campaigns, search and AI, but not enough senior ownership connecting it all.

The problem

Activity is not the same as direction.

The team may already include marketers, writers, agencies, specialists and founders.

Work is getting produced.

Campaigns are running.

AI is creeping into the workflow.

But priorities compete. Messaging drifts. Quality varies. Search becomes somebody else’s problem. Nobody quite owns how the pieces fit together.

That is where fractional leadership becomes useful.

What I provide

A senior layer across the work.

Content and messaging strategy

Keep the wider content programme connected to the positioning, audience and commercial priorities.

Strategic prioritisation

Decide what deserves attention, what can wait and what should probably stop.

Campaign and editorial direction

Give important initiatives stronger strategic direction before execution begins.

Senior review and quality control

Raise the standard of key assets without becoming the production bottleneck.

AI search and content implications

Help the team adapt to AI SEO, GEO/AEO and changing search behaviour without chasing every new tactic.

Content operations and AI-enabled workflows

Identify and oversee practical improvements to the way research, knowledge, production and review happen.

Team and partner guidance

Provide senior input to internal marketers, founders, freelancers and agencies working across the programme.

What you are actually buying

Continuity of judgement.

This is not a copywriting retainer with a more impressive name.

And it is not a monthly bundle of deliverables.

The value is having somebody senior enough to see across the work, challenge weak decisions, improve priorities, maintain standards and help the team adapt as the market changes.

Direction when it matters. Judgement when the answer isn’t obvious.

How involved am I?

Close enough to improve the work. Senior enough not to become the production team.

I stay close to the important decisions, campaigns and assets.

That may include reviewing messaging, shaping a launch, challenging a brief, helping the team work through AI-search implications or getting directly involved where my contribution materially changes the outcome.

But routine production should remain with the people best placed to deliver it.

If a major piece of execution needs deeper hands-on work, it can be scoped separately as a strategic project.

Best fit

This tends to work well when...

  • content and marketing activity is already substantial
  • the team needs stronger senior ownership
  • a full-time senior content hire is unnecessary or premature
  • multiple agencies, freelancers or internal contributors need clearer direction
  • AI adoption is happening without enough strategic coherence
  • messaging, search, campaigns and content operations need to work as one system

The boundary

Strategy can improve the system. It does not replace a systems engagement.

Fractional work can identify, prioritise and oversee improvements to content operations and AI-enabled workflows.

But if the work becomes a substantial audit, redesign or implementation of the content operating system itself, that becomes an AI-Enabled Content Systems engagement.
